עוד מוקדם לדעת אם 2026 תהיה 1977 החדשה. אבל עוד לפני שהקואליציה הולכת הביתה, אפשר כבר לקבוע ששבעה באוקטובר שלח הביתה את האופוזיציה. הסקר האחרון לפני שבעה באוקטובר ניבא למחנה הממלכתי של בני גנץ – עם איזנקוט ועם סער - 29 מנדטים. לפיד כבר היה במגמת ירידה אבל עדיין עם 18. לא היה ליברמן ולא בנט וגם לא גולן. הסקר בדק מה יקרה אם מחאת קפלן תירשם כמפלגה. התוצאה: עשרה מנדטים. בקואליציה אלה עדיין אותן דמויות ואותן מפלגות, אבל את האופוזיציה כמעט אי אפשר לזהות. מ-47 המנדטים של לפיד וגנץ נותרו לפי הסקרים בקושי חמישה. על חורבות העבודה ומרצ קמה מפלגה מאוחדת שאמנם מתאפיינת בעיקר באנשי המחאה, אבל מונהגת בידי מי שהמציא את עצמו מחדש אחרי שקפץ לדרום בשבעה באוקטובר. נפתלי בנט, אף שצלל משמעותית מהשיא אשתקד, מציע יחד עם ליברמן מדיניות ימין לבוחרי מרכז-שמאל והם זוכים יחד לפי שלושה קולות מאשר לפני הטבח. אז היו אלה המחנה הממלכתי, יש עתיד, מרצ וישראל ביתנו ועכשיו – ישר, ביחד, הדמוקרטים וישראל ביתנו. את גנץ החליף איזנקוט – לכאורה לא שינוי משמעותי במיוחד, רמטכ״ל החליף רמטכ״ל בראשות המחנה. ובכל זאת גלי ההדף משבעה באוקטובר משפיעים גם כאן. איזנקוט הוא, כידוע, אב שכול מהמלחמה. האופוזיציה של אז התמקדה ברפורמה המשפטית, זו של עכשיו תעשה בשכל אם תעסוק רק בנושא החרדי. הציבור התרחק משמעותית ממחוללי המחאה, שמרוכזים כולם במפלגת הדמוקרטים. הטבח הרחיק מאוד את האפשרות להקמת ממשלת שינוי 2, בגלל הרתיעה מהמפלגות הערביות וסירובן לכנות את חמאס וחיזבאללה ארגוני טרור. בסקר התאגיד השבוע התברר שאפילו באופוזיציה תומכים שליש בפסילת רע״מ, המפלגה שבלעדיה בנט ולפיד לא היו הופכים ראשי ממשלה. כידוע, עצם ההנחה שהבחירות בסוף החודש תהיינה המכריעות בתולדות המדינה לא נשמעה כאן, אולי להפך. אחת הסיבות לכך היא הפער העצום בין עמדות הציבור לבין הפוליטיקאים שמבטאים אותן. הציבור הלך מאוד ימינה, בדיוק כאשר המיאוס, העייפות והאכזבה ממנהיגי הימין הגיעה לשיא, והמפגש החזיתי בין שתי התנועות הסותרות האלה לא יהיה מראה מלבב ולא יוליד עולם חדש אמיץ מאף סוג. למעשה, חסד עשה נתניהו עם האופוזיציה כשהתעקש להתמודד שוב. בלעדיו, היא הייתה מתקשה מאוד להחליט על סדר יום משותף והייתה צריכה להציע תכנית חלופית לזו של הימין. הצל הארוך של נתניהו מאפיל על הצורך לומר משהו נחרץ. למשל, על האתגר הגדול של הכהונה הבאה והוא ההשלכות הבינלאומיות של הסוגייה הפלסטינית. הכהונה הקודמת עמדה בסימן עזה, הבאה – בסימן יהודה ושומרון. שאלת הישיבה עם נתניהו כן-או-לא חוסכת את הצורך לפרסם תכנית ברורה על עתיד השטחים. ממשל דמוקרטי עוין ועוד לפניו ממשלים אירופיים אנטי-ישראליים לא יהססו להטיל עוד ועוד עיצומים. כל בר דעת שהאזין לנאומו האוטו-אנטישמי של שר החוץ הבריטי וצפה בבדיקות בתיקיהם של נוסעים ישראליים באמסטרדם, שמא יש שם חלבה מהשומרון, מבין שהאירוע מתקרב אלינו בצעדי ענק. כרגע איש לא נערך לקדם את פני הרעה, רק נאחז בניסיון הנואש להשיג את המנדט השישים ואחד מצד כזה או אחר. לטור המלא >> https://www.israelhayom.co.il/magazine/hashavua/article/21533931#google_vignette

Back then it was National Unity, Yesh Atid, Meretz and Yisrael Beiteinu, and now – Yashar, Together, The Democrats and Yisrael Beiteinu. Gantz was replaced by Eisenkot – seemingly not a particularly significant change, a chief of staff replaced a chief of staff at the head of the camp. And yet the shockwaves from October 7 have an effect here too. Eisenkot is, as is known, a bereaved father from the war. The opposition back then focused on the judicial reform, the current one would be wise to deal only with the Haredi issue. The public has moved significantly away from the instigators of the protest, who are all concentrated in The Democrats party. The massacre greatly distanced the possibility of forming a Change Government 2, because of aversion to the Arab parties and their refusal to call Hamas and Hezbollah terrorist organizations. In the Kan poll this week it turned out that even in the opposition a third support disqualifying Ra'am, the party without which Bennett and Lapid would not have become prime ministers. As is known, the very assumption that the elections at the end of the month will be the most decisive in the history of the state was not voiced here, perhaps the opposite. One of the reasons for this is the enormous gap between the public's positions and the politicians who express them. The public has gone very far to the right, exactly when the disgust, fatigue and disappointment with the right's leaders reached a peak, and the head-on encounter between these two contradictory movements will not be a pleasant sight and will not give birth to a brave new world of any kind. In fact, Netanyahu did the opposition a favor when he insisted on running again. Without him, it would have had great difficulty deciding on a common agenda and would have had to propose an alternative plan to that of the right. Netanyahu's long shadow overshadows the need to say something decisive. For example, about the great challenge of the next term, which is the international implications of the Palestinian issue. The previous term was marked by Gaza, the next – by Judea and Samaria. The question of sitting with Netanyahu yes-or-no spares the need to publish a clear plan for the future of the territories. A hostile Democratic administration, and even before it anti-Israeli European governments, will not hesitate to impose more and more sanctions. Any sensible person who listened to the auto-antisemitic speech of the British foreign secretary and watched the searches of Israeli travelers' bags in Amsterdam, lest there be halva from Samaria in them, understands that the event is approaching us with giant steps. But if the trend in the polls intensifies and the ‘change bloc’ moves further away from 61 seats, the only option will be to form a shaky government while breaking a substantial bundle of core campaign promises. A decisive outcome is achieved when a determined bloc wins a majority and coalesces into a stable camp for years. When an eclectic collection of parties joins together for a single vote in the Knesset, that isn’t called a decisive outcome—perhaps a temporary political maneuver. Anyone who doubts this is invited to recall the adventure of the ‘change government’: how it began and how it ended. The significant development following the closing of the candidate lists, therefore, is the merger of Chili Tropper’s party into Eisenkot’s list. It was an intra-bloc contest between Yashar! and Beyachad, but with significant implications for the day after the election. After all, members of ‘Bayit Tzioni’ had previously pledged that they would not support a minority government, even if it were sworn in thanks to the abstention of the Arab parties. Eisenkot’s plan is somewhat reminiscent of what Jewish law calls the prohibition on ‘instructing a non-Jew’ to perform forbidden labor. You’re at a hotel in Rome on Shabbat, dying from the heat, and there’s an Italian next to you. You’re forbidden to tell him, ‘Turn on the air conditioner,’ because that would violate Shabbat. But you can say, ‘It’s hot as hell in here,’ hoping he’ll get the message on his own. That, broadly speaking, is the Eisenkot plan: We won’t negotiate with Abbas and Tibi and demand, ‘Vote for us’; we’ll just say, ‘If Bibi doesn’t fall, it’s on you.’ Only after the election will we know whether publicly laying out the plan on this issue was courageous or foolish. But the logic behind it is to give voters hope for an upset, allowing them to weather difficult weeks in the polls—and the past week was certainly one of those. The merger talks focused on this gap between the two sides. Tropper himself, after all, was among those who thwarted the formation of a similar government headed by Gantz in 2020. Any reasonable person can see what his history means for the chances of forming such a government, as well as the fact that he is being joined by Elisaf Peretz and Shira Shapira, a bereaved brother and a bereaved mother whose loved ones were murdered by the organization that none of the Arab MKs are willing to call by the obvious term: ‘terrorist organization.’ It appears that common ground was reached on the basis of a twofold understanding. Whoever doesn't believe it is invited to recall the adventure of the change government, how it began and how it ended. The significant development with the closing of the slates, therefore, is the merger of Hili Tropper's party into Eisenkot's slate. This was an intra-bloc tender between Yashar! and Together, but with significant consequences for the day after the elections. The members of "Zionist Home," after all, committed in the past that they would not lend a hand to a minority government, even one sworn in with the abstention of the Arab parties. Eisenkot's outline is somewhat reminiscent of what is called in halacha "the prohibition of telling a gentile." You're in a hotel in Rome on Shabbat, dying of heat, and next to you is an Italian. You're not allowed to tell him "turn on the air conditioner" because that's desecrating Shabbat. You can say: "It's hot as hell in here," in the hope he'll understand on his own. That's roughly the Eisenkot outline: we won't negotiate with Abbas and Tibi and demand "vote for us," we'll just say "if Bibi doesn't fall, it's on you." It's clear to any sensible person what that means for the chances of forming such a government given his history, as well as the fact that with him come Elisaf Peretz and Shira Shapira, a bereaved mother and bereaved brother of people murdered by the organization that none of the Arab MKs are willing to define by the obvious name "terrorist organization." It seems the space of agreement was reached through a double understanding: one, Eisenkot will make almost every effort to broaden the government. Not Netanyahu first, but maybe second. Why would Liberman agree to take all the fire for breaking promises in order to crown, at his not-young age, Eisenkot, who is relatively a newcomer? Same for Bennett. The reluctance will grow especially if it's clear this is a temporary move for the purpose of separating Netanyahu from the title "prime minister." Beyond the debate over whether the damage from such an alliance won't hand Netanyahu the next elections, will they let Eisenkot run a campaign from the Prime Minister's Office and drink their blood? As is known, Tropper donated a kidney; they don't intend to donate their bodies to science. The lesson of the Bennett affair and the six seats has not been fully internalized. He became prime minister not because of poker skills – which he certainly has – but as payment for breaking the promise. His other partners were committed to replacing Netanyahu, and he wasn't. (שכזכור אפילו אותה החרדים טרפדו) ומצד החרדים - מעבר לגיוס, אין היתכנות לשבת בקואליציה של שונאי דת רדיקלים, שהבטחותה הבחירות שלהם זה לחרב, לחלל ולטמא את כל הקדוש והיקר. מקווה שח"כ אשר והנציגים החדשים במפלגה ידלגו הפעם על הקשקוש המעיק הזה, יתמקדו בעשיה חיובית ומועילה ויפנימו גם כי הציבור שאותו הם מייצגים הוא ימני ברובו המוחלט.

Even if they wanted to, the Haredim can't sit in a left-wing government. With whom exactly would they sit? With Mansour Abbas and Yair Golan? With Liberman and the wheelbarrow? With Gilad Kariv, the Reform and the LGBT? So it's true that when the left wants, there's a special trash bin for ideology and there's a blank white page, but now the page is already black and full.
