Ran Cohen, born in Baghdad and raised on Kibbutz Gan Shmuel, was an MK for Ratz and then Meretz between 1984 and 2009 and Minister of Industry and Trade (1999–2000). He is known for the public-housing purchase law and minimum-wage legislation.
