Simcha Rothman (born 1980, Bnei Brak) is a lawyer and Religious Zionist Party MK since 2021. He founded the Movement for Governability and Democracy in 2013 and, as chair of the Knesset Constitution, Law and Justice Committee from 2023, was a leading architect of the government's judicial overhaul. He lives in Lod.

Translation The judicial reform returns - part two and final? This afternoon Religious Zionism chairman Minister Bezalel Smotrich and Constitution Committee chairman Simcha Rothman will present the continuation of the plan for fixing the justice system. After they managed in the last term to check off a considerable part of the reform laws that passed in the Knesset Constitution Committee, it turns out that to complete the plan there are a few more moves they intend to advance in the next term. Today it became known that, among other things, Rothman and Smotrich will present their intention to legislate the splitting of the Attorney General, part two - after the first part of the law passed its second and third readings at the end of the session, they will now need to legislate the original split law concerning the splitting of the Attorney General's roles in two: prosecution and advising the government. The issue of splitting the Attorney General's roles was the bone of contention between Smotrich and Rothman and Justice Minister Yariv Levin. But Smotrich has been pushing for this fix since his role in the Movement for Governance and Democracy back in 2013. Alongside this law, the law that Minister Ayelet Shaked and after her Amir Ohana tried unsuccessfully to advance in the past will also return to the table - the law for the appointment of government legal advisers by the ministers. Among the clauses one will also find the override clause. The one meant to regulate the conditions under which a Knesset law can be struck down by the High Court, by what majority, and in which cases the last word will nevertheless remain with the Knesset rather than the Supreme Court. If in the stormy days of the protest against the reform the government was accused of not presenting its plans in the election that preceded the launch of the plan by Levin - Smotrich and Rothman are putting it on the table already at the campaign stage.
