Itamar Ben-Gvir (born 1976, Mevaseret Zion) is a lawyer and the chairman of Otzma Yehudit, a far-right party widely described as the ideological successor of Meir Kahane's Kach movement. He has been Minister of National Security since December 2022, apart from a break between January and March 2025 when his party quit the government over the Gaza ceasefire deal. He was first elected to the Knesset in 2021 on the Religious Zionism joint list. He lives in Kiryat Arba, is married to Ayala Nimrodi and has six children.
Active in Kach's youth movement as a young man. Ran with Otzma LeYisrael (2013, list failed the threshold) and with the Union of Right-Wing Parties (April 2019, not elected); led Otzma Yehudit in the September 2019 and 2020 elections (below threshold). Entered the Knesset in 2021 on the joint Religious Zionism list with Smotrich's party and Noam, and again in 2022, when the joint list won 14 seats and Otzma Yehudit joined Netanyahu's government. In 2026 Otzma Yehudit runs independently.
