Translation The past week – the last week before the new year – was one in which I felt I was part of something important. Once, not long ago, libels like the story of the warning about a war that never was would immediately have become undisputed truth, and scorched the headlines and the opinion and commentary columns for days. This time, thanks to Channel 14, the other right-wing media outlets and a series of diligent, hardworking online activists, the libel was refuted, died and lost all its hot air in less than two days. Even those still desperately trying to resuscitate it know it is dead. The world in which the political left and the left-wing media – two sides of the same coin that work in symbiosis – play with public consciousness while alone on the field, has passed and will not return. This is why a violent campaign of incitement and delegitimization is being waged against Channel 14, and against anyone who dares to stray from the ranks of the old chorus; this is why Yair Golan and his foolish followers fantasize about shutting down Channel 14 – we took from them the monopoly on truth, the freedom to lie and to engineer consciousness. They are not interested in winning the debate, because they are incapable; so they want to silence and bury it. This battle has been decided, regardless of the results of the upcoming elections. The left's consciousness-engineering enterprise through its arms in the media is weakening, and this trend will continue. The owner ran to us and shouted in Spanish, signaling with his hands, that a plane had crashed in the United States. We didn't fully understand what he meant, but we followed him to a room with a television. We saw before us one of the Twin Towers burning, and listened to commentary according to which it was most likely a tragic accident. And then, live, we saw another plane crash straight into the second tower. After our initial shock, of everyone who was watching with us and of the broadcasters reporting on the events, it was clear this was not an accident. Then came reports of more hijacked planes and more crashes, and later we watched in horror as the giant towers collapsed and turned into a cloud of dust. The loss was enormous, but those were days when there was a clear distinction between good and bad, between victims and perpetrators. In the United States and the entire West they understood that nothing could justify such cruelty, and that this was a struggle against brutal jihadism. It is doubtful whether the actions the United States took in the war were right, but the moral position was solid and precise: there is absolute evil in the world, and it must be fought. Since then this position has been blurred. Israel is paying a price for it today, and the Western world will pay a price for it too. But for us in Israel, certainly after the absolute evil of October 7, there is no choice but to hold on to this position. The actions derived from this position must be managed wisely. Foolish statements certainly won't contribute to the struggle, but precisely the clear knowledge that there is absolute evil in the world, and that it must be fought, is the well-founded moral position. And from it, it will be possible to sanctify life and enable life in our land. Translation This week I took part in quite a few holiday toasts, but this was without a doubt one of the most special. I had the privilege of surfing together with members of the "HaHazakim Mitgalim" (The Strong Ride Waves) association, which provides a home and a therapeutic framework for male and female fighters, wounded IDF soldiers and reservists who return from the fighting and also deal with wounds that are not always visible. The association was founded after the outbreak of the war by wounded IDF soldier Udi Tene and former service member Ohad Neimark, and operates entirely on a volunteer basis and with a limited budget. A decisive outcome is achieved when a determined bloc wins a majority and coalesces into a stable camp for years. When an eclectic collection of parties joins together for a single vote in the Knesset, that isn’t called a decisive outcome—perhaps a temporary political maneuver. Anyone who doubts this is invited to recall the adventure of the ‘change government’: how it began and how it ended. The significant development following the closing of the candidate lists, therefore, is the merger of Chili Tropper’s party into Eisenkot’s list. It was an intra-bloc contest between Yashar! and Beyachad, but with significant implications for the day after the election. After all, members of ‘Bayit Tzioni’ had previously pledged that they would not support a minority government, even if it were sworn in thanks to the abstention of the Arab parties.
