Translation Summary of the verdict: The Magistrate's Court today, in a reasoned and detailed verdict delivered by Judge Elazar Bialin, convicted the defendant, MK Ofer Cassif, of the offense of assaulting a police officer under aggravated circumstances, under Section 274(1) of the Penal Law, 5737-1977. According to the indictment, on 13.5.22, during protest events in the South Hebron Hills area following a Supreme Court ruling regarding the villages in the 'Masafer Yatta' area, orders were issued declaring the vicinity of the Route 317 junction and the dirt roads leading to Yatta a closed military zone. The defendant arrived at the site in his car and joined a group of protesters. At around 12:00, after the security forces stopped the defendant's car on the dirt road and prevented him from advancing into the protest compound for safety reasons and because of the ban on entering Area A, the defendant himself went to the car in order to drive it. A heated argument developed between the defendant and Border Police officer Inspector Dor Amitai and police officer Yitzhak Azoulay, which included insults by the defendant ("filthy liar", "cheat", "criminal", "scum of the human race" and "absolute zero"). The defendant got into his car, and after officer Azoulay stood in front of the car to block its movement, the defendant drove a few meters backward and then moved forward slowly until he struck officer Azoulay's left leg with the car, with the intention of obstructing him in the performance of his duty. In response, the officer struck the hood, and when the defendant got out of his car a verbal confrontation developed during which the officer waved his finger and lightly touched the defendant's face. In response to this, the defendant raised his right hand and struck the left side of the officer's head hard, in a way that caused him pain in his head and his leg. The defendant denied the charges against him, claimed his parliamentary immunity supposedly grants him free passage with his car, claimed that the car strike was accidental and that the blow to the officer's head was done in "self-defense" after the officer allegedly attacked him with his finger, and even raised a preliminary claim of selective enforcement. The court rejected the defense's claims outright. It was determined that the security forces acted lawfully and with full authority, for reasons of security and safety, to prevent danger to life and forbidden entry into Area A, and that the defendant's immunity as a Knesset member was fully realized in that he was allowed to move freely on foot in the protest compound, but that it does not grant him the right to endanger people or to obstruct police officers by driving a car. It was further determined that it was proven beyond any reasonable doubt that the defendant struck the officer with his car knowingly and with intent to obstruct him, and that his violent response (the blow to the officer's head) is not covered by the self-defense exception, since it was a patently disproportionate response compared to an incidental touch caused by the movement of the defendant's own body. Finally, the claim of selective enforcement was rejected in light of the clear evidentiary gap and the absence of any flaw in the prosecution's conduct.

These steps included, among others, unilateral recognition of a virtual "Palestinian state" in September 2025; renewed funding for UNRWA; suspension of defense export licenses to Israel; imposing sanctions on Israeli ministers; imposing sanctions on Israeli individuals and entities; suspension of negotiations on a free trade agreement; restricting Israel's official participation in an international defense and security equipment exhibition in Britain; freezing military dialogue and security cooperation; barring IDF officers from participating in a course at the Royal College of Defence Studies; repeated, tendentious and one-sided attacks against Israel in the international arena. In the past week we held a dialogue with the British government with the aim of preventing further escalation in relations between the countries due to the closure of the consulate. Last night we reached understandings based on the following principles: 1. As I announced - the British consulate in Jerusalem ended its function today. The consul general and 20 diplomats (including the consul general) are ending their posts and will leave Israel. 2. The building that served the consulate is the property of the British government. We have authorized the British government to operate in the building, which has ceased today to serve as a consulate, a task team of only 7 diplomats with a very limited scope of activity. 3. We agreed on a continued dialogue between the governments, in which both sides will be able to raise the issues important to each of them. We believe in dialogue and will continue to believe in dialogue. Unfortunately, in recent years there has been no real dialogue with the Labour government. This, despite good relations with Britain, which are expressed among other things in security and intelligence cooperation. Relations between Israel and Britain are important, and have proven their value time and again, including in protecting the lives and interests of British citizens. If there are - we will face them on the basis of our principles. It is important to emphasize again that it was not we who initiated the current crisis. We are interested in good relations with all the countries of the world. But any country that acts against Israel should know that there will be a price for it. It will not profit from it, on the contrary. The period of Israeli containment is over - on both the security and the diplomatic level.
