But today, especially after October 7, we all understand that we need something more, that a connection is needed to the primordial place from which we all came. We must dismantle the dichotomy and the walls. We are thirsty for this connection between spirit and matter. Thirsty for this togetherness. (res.) Yossi Bachar from Kibbutz Be'eri. Both carry the beacon of settlement, pioneering and holding fast to the land, and both are also an example of regrowth, of rising from a terrible break. Kibbutz Be'eri, one of the 11 settlement points in the Negev, which were established in one night after Yom Kippur 5707, is one of the most prominent symbols of the terrible disaster we all experienced 3 years ago, including a very close family loss that Yossi Bachar experienced. But it is also a symbol of revival, of pioneering that hasn't faded even after 80 years, of rebuilding and of flourishing after a break. The deep inner resilience shown by Maj. Gen. (res.) Yossi Bachar, who fought heroically on the paths of the kibbutz and, out of the break and the private and national disaster, rose to his role as deputy commander of the Southern Command and managed the campaign against Hamas with a strong hand, is a compass for all of us, an example for an entire generation that rose like a lion and shook itself off despite the difficulty. Kibbutz Beit HaShita, where Brig. Gen. (res.) Musa Peled lives, was for years a symbol of sacrifice and heroism when it paid a heavy blood price in the Yom Kippur War. 11 members of the kibbutz were killed in the battles. Kibbutz member Dorit Tzameret wrote immediately after the war the song "The Wheat Grows Again" - a song of hope out of pain. In the War of Revival too, in this very year, the heroic family of Battalion 52 commander Dor Ben Simhon of Beit HaShita, who fell about 3 months ago, shows us strength of spirit and an example of growth and continued contribution to the people and the state. I was there together with Musa at the shiva, and it was hard to miss the pioneering-settlement DNA of the Valley flowing in the blood of the Ben Simhon family. >>> We had hard challenges before the founding of the state; many challenges await us in the future. As we come to settle, grow and make the land flourish - in the Galilee, in the Negev, in Judea and Samaria and in the prosperity of the center - we will remember that we are grandchildren of the first generation of founders and of the second generation of builders, sitting on the shoulders of giants, cherishing their work and continuing their enterprise.
