My conviction should not come as a surprise to anyone, and it certainly did not surprise me personally. Like the foolish attempt to disqualify my candidacy for the Knesset, this conviction is another link in the chain of ongoing and open political persecution of anyone who stands without fear against the occupation, its crimes and its criminals, while defending democracy, justice and true peace for both peoples of this land. The attempts to silence the voices that challenge the establishment and the ruling authority and expose the truth of its crimes do not reflect a commitment to the rule of law; rather, they reveal a fear of the facts. Attempts at silencing through the courts will not erase the struggle or muffle our voices; they only highlight how biased the entire system is and how it is harnessed to settle the political scores plotted, directed and led by the Kahanists; many of them with criminal records, including a convicted murderer who was previously imprisoned. These are the very same people who continue - even at this moment, at the height of the olive harvest season - to spread fear and terror against the Palestinians in Masafer Yatta and throughout the occupied West Bank. We will continue our struggle and will carry hope and light to our society and to our two bleeding peoples. Enough of the occupation, enough of the bloodshed - yes to peace! They tried to oust, they tried to disqualify, our struggle for justice and peace cannot be taken away! My conviction should not surprise anyone. It certainly did not surprise me. This, like the foolish attempt to disqualify me, is another layer in the ongoing and open political persecution of anyone who stands without fear against the occupation, its crimes and its criminals, and for democracy, justice and true peace for both peoples of this land. The attempts to remove from the public arena voices that fight the government and hold up a mirror to its crimes do not demonstrate the rule of law, but fear of an uncomfortable truth. The first law Zehut will pass in the next Knesset will be changing the name of the state to "Israel - State of the Jewish People."
